Who we are

Who is Wasya Wa Mwaitu?

Wasya Wa Mwaitu — “Wasya Usu” — means together we save, together we rise.

As Genesis CDA’s Women Empowerment Department, Wasya Wa Mwaitu brings women together around a shared conviction: progress is stronger when it is collective. Members meet in groups to save regularly, lend among themselves, and support one another through seasons of hardship and opportunity.

The work is practical and relational. Women build financial discipline, grow small livelihoods, and strengthen the confidence to lead in the home and in community life. What begins as a savings circle becomes a network of trust — skills shared, voices raised, and households made more resilient.

Wasya Wa Mwaitu sits inside Genesis CDA’s wider mission of community development. That partnership anchors women’s empowerment in long-standing organisational experience, while keeping membership women-led and locally accountable.

    • * Provide scholarships and learning support.
    • * Award scholarships to bright and needy secondary school students.
    • * Expand support to deserving university and college students.
    • * Reduce school dropouts caused by financial hardship.
    • * Establish a permanent, community-owned education fund for future generations.

  • 50-seater community bus

    • * Safe transport for members and community programmes.
    • * Transport women’s groups to trainings, conferences, exhibitions, and exchange visits.
    • * Provide transport services to schools, churches, institutions, community groups, and individuals.
    • * Generate income to cover fuel, staff, insurance, maintenance, and operating costs.
    • * Generate surplus revenue to support women’s economic empowerment programmes.
    • * Improve access to development opportunities across Kitui County and beyond.
    • * Operate as a social enterprise, reducing donor dependence and generating sustainable income for long-term community development.

  • VSLA seed capital

    • * Support household savings and livelihood starter funds.
    • * Provide Table Banking and VSLA seed capital to CBOs.
    • * Strengthen women’s savings and lending schemes to increase household incomes.
    • * Fund small businesses owned and managed by women.
    • * Provide entrepreneurship, financial literacy, leadership, governance, and business management training.
    • * Support value addition, climate-smart agriculture, poultry, goat rearing, water enterprises, and other viable local businesses.
    • * Build strong, self-reliant women’s organizations that drive sustainable community development.
